The Face ID on my iPhone Xs does not seem to work when I have my sunglasses on. Is there a way to fix this?

This problem does not affect many people, but it depends on the type of sunglasses you are wearing. The iPhone does get foxed sometimes when the shades are big or oddly shaped. There is a simple remedy for this. Go to Settings—Face ID & Passcode. You will need to enter your passcode. Scroll down to Require Attention for Face ID and turn it off. The iPhone should open with any kind of sunglasses you may be wearing.

Now, even if your eyes are closed the iPhone will still recognise you. This has its drawbacks. Someone could just put the phone to your face and force you to unlock it. The person could do that even when you are asleep. So weigh the risks before you turn this setting off.

Secure phone

Will installing Norton Mobile Security on my Redmi Note 5 (4GB RAM and 64GB storage) slow down the phone? Will the app be able to detect malware?

S. Ghosh

This is one of the better security apps for a mobile phone because it detects malware without being too intrusive and sits quietly on the phone. The app is more than just an anti-virus scanner; it also enables you to lock or wipe the phone remotely if it is stolen.

What I like best about this security suite is the App Advisor that informs you of the vulnerabilities of an app you are installing and whether the app is sharing too much information about yourself. People join free WiFi networks whenever they are available. The app will warn you if you are about to connect to a dangerous one where your financial data may be at risk. Another advantage is that it can prevent you from visiting websites that may have malicious code in it.

Norton Mobile Security does not noticeably slow down the phone in any way. However, if you do not mess around with Android’s default security settings and avoid downloading apps from places other than Google Play, you will not need any security suite. Just don’t join free WiFi hotspots, avoid opening suspicious attachments and keep away from websites you are not sure of.

Product key

I have an HP laptop with Windows 10 Pro. I am constantly being told to activate Windows. How do I do that?

Kumaresh Malo

If Windows 10 came preinstalled with your laptop, you have to get hold of the product key. Type command in the search bar and run it as an administrator. This will open Command Prompt with administrator credentials. Enter the following: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProduct Key and press Enter. This will reveal the product key. Copy it.

Go to Start—Settings—Update & security—Activation and click on “Change product key”. Paste the new key and click on Next to activate it.

Block calls

Could you suggest a call-blocking app for my Lenovo A6600 phone?

D. Bose

You do not need another app to block numbers as you can do it within Android very easily. Open the phone app and go to settings by pressing the three dots on the top left. Tap on “Block numbers” and enter the number.

If you still want an app, consider Should I Answer? by Mister Group s.r.o. or Calls Blacklist—Call Blocker from Vlad Lee. Both are available from the Google Play store.
