Value for money and quality, those are the keystones of the Amazfit smartwatch, something that remain intact on the new GTS 3, which is good option if you are unwilling to splurge on a flagship product. Placed in the mid-range product category, it has almost all the features of a high-end number. What does the GT3 gets right (or wrong)?

Since quality is synonymous with Amazfit, there is a good-quality silicon strap attached to the largish 1.75-inch AMOLED screen that gets bright and never fails to shine even under direct sunlight. It’s heartening to find a crown-shaped button which works as a scroll wheel and to move to the home screen. The touch-sensitive display is also up to scratch, never failing to respond.

Where GTS 3 shines is thanks to the Zepp OS, which offers well-designed icons and watch faces that have a graphical element to it. It’s an absolutely beauty. Plus, the interface offers smooth animations, making scrolling through menus and apps absolutely effortless. You are given all the important functions that are needed for everyday use — alarm, timer and what not, plus tighter integration with Alexa, which is helpful for users who have a lot of Amazon’s home-assistant-driven gadgets in their lives.

But that doesn’t mean it’s all hunky-dory. Though it’s good to see Zepp OS doing all the heavy uplifting, I want customisation in way of third-party apps and I mean, powerful and important apps, not just a calculator. In the long run, most smartwatch brands need to look at allowing important third-party apps, like Calm or Headspace. On the flip side, how seriously will these app makers work for different app stores (beyond the obvious top three)? That’s something every brand needs to sort out.The thought shouldn’t stop you from buying GTS 3, which has one of the best fitness tracking systems in the mid-range segment. The Zepp app is well designed, offering all the important fitness graphs on the front page, besides all the data points are easily understandable.

It’s great to hear that there are 150-plus sports modes but what I most enjoyed is BioTracker PPG 3.0 biometric sensor. The results are comparable to high-end smartwatches from Apple or Samsung. The best feature is one-tap measurement. The nifty offering has to do with measuring your heart rate, stress level, blood oxygen and breathing rate within a few seconds, instead of you having to do each of the things separately. Amazfit’s amazing PAI scoring system is also there and as always, it inspires to stay fit. Using the app, you can turn on sleep breathing quality monitoring, auto blood oxygen monitoring, change how often you want heart rate monitoring to happen and so on.In way of battery life too there are no complains.

Though claims are for up to 12 days but with all the features on — including always-on display — you will get around four days out of it, which compared to Apple or Samsung watches, is a huge leap. The two things I would have liked on the watch is a way to reply to messages and the ability to take calls directly from the watch.

Is it worth the price? Yes, it is. Amazfit remains a strong name when it comes fitness tracking and its companion app remains flawless. Amazfit remains amazing with the GTS 3.
