“I’m extremely pleased and honoured to have received this important award,” said Rima, who besides directing, wrote the film’s script and produced it like her previous ventures.

The film narrates the story of Bulbul, a teenage schoolgirl, who grows up in a rural setting in Assam. While she is on the verge of discovering her teen life, a tragedy strikes her best friend. A spirited Bulbul fights her way through love and loss as she figures out who she really is.

Bulbul Can Sing talks about teenagers, issues they face in school and surroundings and their life in general. I am earnestly grateful that our work has been recognised and thankful to the cast and crew, family and friends and everyone for their love and encouragement,” the filmmaker said.

The film also had its European premiere during the festival on February 12.

Maryanne Redpath, head of Generation section of the festival, has also highly appreciated the film.

Arnali Das, who played the protagonist, was also applauded for her work.

“We are overwhelmed by the love we received in Berlin. The viewers appreciated the film. It’s great to see that people from other part of the globe could relate to a story of my part of the world. It’s really encouraging,” Rima said.

Earlier, Bulbul Can Sing had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. It was screened at the Busan International Film Festival, the largest film festival in Asia.
