A 63-year-old cancer patient from Assam, who tested positive on Monday in New Delhi, was shifted to a designated Covid-19 hospital on Wednesday after health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted to Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia requesting help.

The patient’s son had alleged that the Delhi administration and Apollo Hospitals, where his father was admitted, had not responded to their request for help.

Sarma, in his reply, sought the help of Sisodia. “@msisodia dear Manish bhai — pl help Sri Phukan. He is from assam,” Sarma tweeted.

“Discussed with Shri Nokul phukon, @CMODelhi taken cognisance, now the patient has already been taken to LNJP designated Covid-19 hospital, @ShaleenMitra is also taking care of it. @msisodia,” AAP founder and National Council member Rajesh Sharma replied to Sarma’s request.

Sarma also thanked the Delhi government in a tweet “Thank you @CMODelhi and @msisodia.”

Phukan told The Telegraph, “My father is a cancer patient and was under treatment in Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He went to the hospital for a blood test on April 27. At that time, the hospital authority also conducted a Covid-19 test. Later, around 11pm, they informed us he had tested positive.

“My father was shifted to a Covid hospital after the Assam government’s intervention, almost 24 hours after he tested positive.

“We tried all helplines but didn’t get a proper response. After that we managed to contact the LNJP Hospital in-charge doctor. They shifted him to the hospital around 2am today,” he said.

He alleged that though two other family members, including him, are there, the Delhi government had not asked them to take any necessary precautions.
