Assam finance minister Himanta Biswas Sharma on Friday said forging a post-poll alliance with any party was not a problem for the BJP as all political parties, including the Congress, were its friends.
“People from the Congress, Mizo National Front (MNF) and Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) are our friends. So if we need a post-poll alliance we can request every one because they are our friends,” he said.
Though the post-poll scenario is difficult to predict as of now, the BJP would not have a problem even if it fell short of majority, he added.
He said the BJP was expanding its organisational base in the state. The party has fielded candidates for 39 seats.
On the prospects of the party, Sharma said they would win a substantial number of seats. “We will create a mark, but whether or not we will form the government is difficult to predict as of now. Putting a number today will not be good because the people of Mizoram will decide how many seats they want to give to the BJP,” he said.
The minister added that if the BJP won 12 to 14 seats, they had many friends to join them.
He said he acknowledged that the Congress and the MNF were big parties in Mizoram. However, ultimately who will be big and small will be decided by the people on Wednesday.
The BJP leader also alleged that it was the Congress that spread false propaganda about the BJP as being an anti-Christian party among the people of Mizoram.
Sharma said many Christian ministers were inducted into the BJP governments in Assam, Arunachal, Nagaland and other states.
