4 arrested for bank robbery

The four accused had entered the bank by breaking the lock of the main gate with a gas cutter

Four persons were on Tuesday arrested for allegedly looting nearly Rs 20 lakh and a petty cash box from United Bank of India’s (UBI) Dergaon branch in Golaghat district on December 6.

Three of the accused, Taizuddin Ali, 33, Imran Khan, 29, and Shahidul Islam, 33, are residents of Barpeta district, and the fourth, Faruk Ali, 40, is from Golaghat district.

“Based on a tip-off, our team first apprehended Taizuddin from his home and then arrested Imran and Shahidul from Guwahati. At the same time, another team arrested Faruk from Dimapur in Nagaland. We also seized a Tata Sumo and a Toyota Innova from them which we believe was used in the robbery,” deputy superintendent of police Hiranya Kumar Dohutia said.

The accused were produced in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday which sent them to 10 days’ police remand.

The four had entered the bank by breaking the lock of the main gate with a gas cutter.
