Chandrayaan-3 is all set to touchdown on the moon on Wednesday, August 23 at 6.04pm. The spacecraft, launched on an LVM-3 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota on July 14 is set for its soft landing on the lunar surface and you can watch it live from 5.27pm on Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) official website (link below). National Geographic Channel and Disney+Hotstar will also have a live telecast of the event from 4pm (More info here). This is India’s second attempt at soft landing on the moon, and will be the fourth country in the world to do so if the mission is successful.
The countdown has begun, and Chandrayaan-3 will attempt a soft landing on the lunar South Pole if everything goes to plan. So far, the ISRO team has seen the spacecraft enter lunar orbit successfully and also shared the first images of the moon from Chandrayaan.
Chandrayaan-3 aims to conduct rover roving on the moon and also perform in-situ scientific experiments. The space mission will also provide a clearer understanding of lunar water.
As the nation holds its breath, scientists are certain there should be no problems but a final call will be taken two hours before landing time tomorrow.
We wish the team, and Chandrayaan-3, all the very best.
