As difficult as it may be to believe, the Julia Roberts-starrer rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding turns 25 this month, tomorrow to be specific. The P.J. Hogan film, released on June 20, 1997, and followed a young food critic named Julianne (Roberts), who upon realising that she still has feelings for her longtime friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney), sets out to stop his wedding to Kimmy (Cameron Diaz).
The film is considered one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time, particularly because, in the end, the girl does not get the guy and seems to be okay with it. “So many people have someone that they can see themselves as in the movie. I also just think that we really got lucky coming together — none of us knew each other before we made the movie — and we just had a really great chemistry. It just worked,” Roberts said about the film, in an interview, a few weeks ago.
