It’s a happy homecoming as Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s most successful captain, returns to the Knight’s dugout as a mentor. A fan-favourite in Kolkata for bringing the IPL trophy to the City of Joy in 2012 and 2014, Gambhir took no time to announce his arrival into the dressing room. With hopes of reclaiming the IPL title after a decade, Gambhir delivered an inspirational speech to the players, emphasising the importance of hard work and dedication. Gambhir has already expressed that he believes in giving players freedom, a mantra that was crucial in lifting two IPL titles, and he is not going to differentiate between players. “There is no senior/junior, no domestic/ international, everyone is equal,” said Gambhir, while discussing what is expected from the players at the Eden Gardens. “You are representing a very proud and successful franchise, so carry that attitude on the field,” Gambhir further added. As the Knights gear up for another shot at glory, Gambhir’s leadership promises a season filled with success. Fingers crossed.
