Celebrate the New Year of these four states through food

Indulge in the culinary delights of Bihu, Vishu, Puthandu, and Baisakhi at these popular spots

As we celebrate Poila Baisakh today, why not savour the diverse flavours of other states, also celebrating their New Year in Kolkata? Experience the richness of Assam’s Bihu, Kerala’s Vishu, Tamil Nadu’s Puthandu and Punjab’s Baisakhi through their delectable cuisines available right here in the city.

Vishu: Enjoy an elaborate feast with Piyush Menon of Coastal Macha. The Vishu special vegetarian platter has everything from red rice, sambhar, Kootu curry to Rasam, Injipuli and Payasam. It is available for takeout on April 14 and 15.

Puthandu: Celebrate the Tamil New Year by relishing lip-smacking south Indian food at several restaurants in Kolkata like Banana Leaf, SurFire, Ammini and Tamarind. Get together with your friends and relish Vadas, Pachadi, Payasam and more. 

Bohag Bihu: As Assam flips its calendar to a New Year, you can indulge in some authentic Assamese food at Shillong Point. The Ballygunge restaurant has a special Bihu menu featuring Duck Curry, Masor Tenga, Gahori Jhul, Manxor Jhul and more. The menu will be available till April 21. 

Baisakhi: Punjabis are known for their delectable food culture. This extended Baisakhi weekend, you can savour special items like Amritsari Fish, Butter Chicken with parathas, Lassi and more at Kolkata’s popular Punjabi food joints like Balwant Singh Dhaba, Kake Di Hatti, Punjabee Rasoi, Apna Dhaba etc.
