Calcutta boys, filmmakers, animators, storyboard artists and illustrators Bob and Bobby put together this special piece of art for t2’s Pride special edition. Here’s a note from the twin brothers on the theme and what the movement means to them as allies.

The plan was to show something that would in a way depict the fight of the queer community. They have been dealing with all the trolls and abuses with kindness and love. Even though there is structure breaking down and there are these people coming out, it’s never violent. Instead, there is a sense of liberation. The birds are the motifs of liberation and the shackles have been used as metaphors for how societal norms actually limit us. A lot of times there is a tendency to demonise what might seem different to some. Pride Month is reclaiming your position in society as an equal and choosing the right to love who you want to love. Ideally, society should have accepted everyone as they are and there shouldn’t have been a need for anyone to explain themselves. But when the social structure has been built in a way that oppresses people who are from marginalised communities, it feels liberating to see people proudly represent themselves and celebrate diversity.
