British Indian Association, was established on this day with purpose of welfare of Indians

British Indian Association, one of the first political organisations exclusively of Indians in British-ruled India, was established on this day. Its purpose was the welfare of Indians.

Its first president was Radhakanta Deb and its first general secretary was Debendranath Tagore.

“The great aim and object of this Association shall be to promote the improvement and efficiency of the British Indian Government by every legitimate means in its power, and thereby to advance the common interests of Great Britain and India, and ameliorate the condition of the native inhabitants of the subject country,” the association rule book stated.
