Poet and journalist Krishna Chandra Majumdar passed away on this day.

His work represented the coming together of diverse literary traditions.

He was born in Senhati in Khulna (now in Bangladesh). He studied Sanskrit and Persian and worked as the head master at Kirtipasha Bengali School. He also taught at Dhaka Normal School.

In 1860, he became the editor of two journals, including Kavitakusumavali. Next year, he became the editor of Dhaka Prakash. He edited a few more publications, but returned to teaching at school. He edited and published the magazine Dvaibhashiki from Jessore (now in Bangladesh), in Sanskrit and Bengali.

Majumdar is best known for his poem Sadbhavashatak (1861), which is inspired by the Persian poets Hafez and Saadi. He also wrote Mohabhog, a poetic drama based on an episode from Mahabharata.

He also wrote an autobiography, Raser Itibrtta. His philosophical work is titled Kaivalyatattva.
