On this day the British Governor-General in India Lord Hastings wrote a letter accepting the supervision of Bangalore’s Lalbagh garden from military paymaster and keeper of the garden, Major Gilbert Waugh.
Lalbagh had belonged to Tipu Sultan before it passed on to the charge of the British.

In 1814, Waugh wrote to Hastings that it should be under the Botanic Garden, Kolkata.
The superintendent of Botanic Garden, Nathaniel Wallich, was appointed to supervise Lalbagh with the expenses borne by the British government.
With Wallich at the helm, a plan was made for the supervision of Lalbagh, though he could not visit it very often because he was posted in Kolkata.
