A bunch of women, who had been at the forefront of the protests against the citizenship trident, took to the streets on Wednesday, this time to support their “sisters” in Manipur.

More than 200 women assembled outside Park Circus Maidan around 3pm. They stayed put for the next 90 minutes, shouting slogans against the state and central governments that they said were to blame for the Manipur crisis.

“Every woman should come out and protest against the assault on women in Manipur. Women have shown their power of resistance before. We forced the government to backtrack on the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Population Register and the National Register of Citizens,” said Uzma Alam, the founder of an NGO that works for women and children.

The women are supposed to visit the Raj Bhawan on Thursday.

“We will give a memorandum to the governor,” said Alam.

The Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) also took out a rally against the “state-sponsored atrocities” in Manipur.

Over 100 members of APDR assembled at Minto Park. A sharp spell of rain delayed the march.

But after a while, the protesters braved the showers and walked till Manipur Bhawan where they submitted a memorandum addressed to the Manipur governor.
