Metro Railway has tweaked its weekend schedule for over a month, starting this Saturday, because of track maintenance work.
The 8.68-km elevated stretch between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) and Kavi Subhash (New Garia) will need maintenance work and train movements between the two stations have been revised, said Metro officials.
“The tracks between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Kavi Subhash are on a viaduct…. The overhead stretch needs a thorough check,” said Kausik Mitra, chief public relations officer of Metro Railway.
The revised schedule will be effective on May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 and June 3, 4 and 11.
Saturday
On May 6, 13, 20, 27 and June 3, there will be no services between New Garia and Tollygunge till 10am. Usually, on Saturdays, the first train leaves New Garia at 6.50am.
On those dates, the first Dakshineswar-bound train will leave Tollygunge, instead of New Garia, at 6.50am. From 6.50am to 10am, trains will run between Dakshineswar and Tollygunge.
From 10am, the stretch between Tollygunge and New Garia will be open for commercial runs. Normal services will then resume between Dakshineswar and New Garia.
The carrier usually runs 234 trains on Saturdays.“There will be no change in the number of trains,” said Mitra.
Sunday
On May 7, 14, 21 and June 4, the first train for Dakshineswarwill start from Tollygunge, instead of New Garia, at the usual time, 9am.
From 9am to 10am, there will be no services between Tollygunge and New Garia. After that, normal services will resume between Dakshineswar and New Garia.
On Sundays, the first trains leave the terminal stations at 9am.
On May 28 and June 11, the services on the entire Dakshineswar-New Garia corridor will start at 10am, instead of 9am.
The carrier usually runs 130 trains on Sundays. The number of trains will remain unchanged, an official said.
