A team of forensic officials visited the abandoned CISF barracks on Watgunge on Friday where the severed body parts of a homemaker were found on Wednesday. The team also visited the house of her in-laws.
A police team found some body parts, suspected to be that of the homemaker, in a bag from Chatkal Ghat in the West Port area on Friday.
The forensic team found blood stains in the common hall of the homemaker’s in-law’s house in front of their puja room.
“The woman was likely killed at this spot. A water tap is located in that room. It may have been used to clean the room. But blood stains have been found on some cartons, clothes and on the floor. Blood marks were also found on a basin in the balcony, a drain and two gunny bags,” said an officer.
A hacksaw with blood stains has been found, the police said.
The forensic team was accompanied by officers of the homicide wing of the detective department.
The officials were seen taking photographs and collecting samples from inside one of the rooms of the house of the Sarkhel family — which neighbours said was their “puja room”.
The police suspect that more than one weapon had been used for killing and then chopping off the body parts of the woman.
The body parts were found in three separate black polythene bags. A fourth polythene bag was found in the abandoned CISF barracks compound but it was empty.
The brother-in-law of Durga Sarkhel, whose severed body parts were found wrapped in polythene bags, was arrested for the murder on Thursday morning.
Police said the arrested person had confessed to his crime.
