Vidyasagar Setu to remain closed for taut string test

The bridge will remain closed for traffic on two nights from April 29 to May 1

Kolkata Traffic Police (KTP) has issued a notice informing a full traffic block to be enforced on Vidyasagar Setu on two nights between April 29 to May 1 for a safety test.

The Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) authority will conduct a taut string test on the bridge from 11.50pm on April 29 to 6am on April 30 and from 11pm on April 30 to 5am on May 1.

KTP has also stated in the notification that vehicles will be diverted to various routes during the time period on the mentioned dates.

  • West-bound small vehicles, coming along Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road from Zeerut Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Turf View via grade road towards Hastings crossing to avail St. Georges gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge or to take a right turn from Hastings crossing for Kidderpore Road
  • West-bound small vehicles, coming along Kidderpore Road from J&N Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hastings Crossing to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge.
  • East-bound small vehicles, coming along CGR Road from Kidderpore side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Hastings Crossing to take a left turn to avail St Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge.
  • Small vehicles from Kidderpore Road, availing Vidyasagar Setu via ramp at Y-Point near Ghora pass, will also be diverted from Y-Point on Kidderpore Road towards 11 Furlong Gate to avail Kidderpore Road – Red Road for Howrah Bridge.
  • West-bound all types of goods vehicles except port-bound, coming along Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road from DL Khan side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from AJC Bose Road / DL Khan Road crossing to avail Hospital Road – Kidderpore Road – Dufferin Road – Mayo Road – Netaji Statue – Govt. Place East – Esplanade Row East – Esplanade crossing – Chittaranjan Avenue –Bhupen Bose Avenue – Shyambazar 5 Point crossing - Tallah Bridge – BT Road – Dunlop crossing - Nivedita Setu.
  • West-bound all types of goods vehicles except port-bound, coming along Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road from Exide crossing for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Exide Crossing to avail Jawaharlal Nehru Road – Dorina crossing – Esplanade crossing —Chittaranjan Avenue – Bhupen Bose Avenue—Shyambazar 5 Point crossing - Tallah Bridge– BT Road– Dunlop crossing - Nivedita Setu.
  • All types of goods vehicles, coming from the port area for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Clyde Row/St Georges Gate Road crossing to avail St Georges Gate Road —Strand Road - Kingsway– Chittaranjan Das Statue- Netaji Statue – Govt. Place East – Esplanade Row East –Esplanade crossing– Chittaranjan Avenue - Bhupen Bose Avenue – Shyambazar 5 Point crossing - Tallah Bridge–B T Road – Dunlop crossing - Nivedita Setu.
  • West-bound all types of goods vehicles except port-bound, coming along Kidderpore Road from J&N Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hastings crossing to avail St Georges Gate Road – Strand Road - Kingsway–Chittaranjan Das statue- Netaji statue– Govt Place East – Esplanade Row East Esplanade crossing – Chittaranjan Avenue - Bhupen Bose Avenue – Shyambazar 5 Point crossing - Tallah Bridge– BT Road – Dunlop crossing - Nivedita Setu.
