Two of the three ED officers who sustained injuries in Friday’s mob attack at Sarberia village in North 24-Parganas during a search-and-seizure operation on Trinamul leader Shahjahan Sheikh’s house were released from a private hospital in Salt Lake on Saturday afternoon.

The third, who remains admitted to the hospital’s high dependency unit (HDU), is stable, ED officials said.

Officers Somnath Dutta and Ankur Gupta were released from the hospital after doctors found them “fit for discharge” about 19 hours after they had been admitted.

Senior ED officers said the two officers had sustained minor injuries and complained of body ache and pain in their shoulders when they were admitted. Their condition improved following medical intervention.

The injury of Raj Kumar Ram, ED’s assistant director, is grave.

“He received six stitches for a head injury. All three underwent MRI and CT scans,” said a senior ED officer.

“Ram is at the hospital’s HDU for stabilisation.”

Between Friday and Saturday, a neurologist and a spine and pain specialist checked the injured.

On Saturday evening, hospital officials refused to speak saying they were not authorised to share information about updates of patients who have been admitted or released.

“You need to speak to those who have got the patients admitted to the hospital. We can’t give out any information,” said an official of the hospital.

Senior officers from Basirhat police district said the three officers remain witnesses to the incident of the mob attack and that they would speak to the trio.

A senior officer of the Basirhat police district said: “It’s important to record the statement of the three injured officers.”

On Friday, governor C.V. Ananda Bose and senior ED officials visited the three officers in the hospital.

“The trauma will be quite high for these three officers and we want them to take time and recover before resuming their duties,” the senior ED officer said.
