Tribute to those lost in fire at AMRI hospital 12 years ago

About 50 families who lost their family members or friends in the fire at AMRI hospital on December 9, 2011, walked from a memorial built for the victims inside Rabindra Sarobar to AMRI hospital in Dhakuria on Saturday afternoon.

The family members spoke about the loved ones they lost. They placed flowers at the base of the memorial and later, lit candles outside the hospital's annexe building where the fire broke out.

Ninety-three people lost their lives in the fire. "We want a deadline by when the trial will end and the guilty will be punished. Twelve years have passed but the case is still dragging on, Will we never get justice?," said Paromita Guha Thakurta, who lost her mother in the fire.

She said that the doctor who conducted the post-mortem of the victims was being heard in the court now.
