Three brothers were arrested from Muzaffarpur in Bihar late on Wednesday night for allegedly opening fire on a father and son in Tiljala in southeast Kolkata on Saturday morning.

The early morning shooting had left the locality along Tiljala Road terrorised with armed youths scaling walls while fleeing the spot after opening fire and police trying to chase them.

After identifying the brothers, the police tracked them based on the locations of their mobile phone towers and found them holed up in a village in Kishunpur Mohona in Muzaffarpur.

“Jibod Ray, 35, Binod, 27, and Prakash, 25 are some of the main accused. All of them are residents of Tiljala Road and had planned Saturday’s attack to underline their authority in the area,” said a police officer.

Raju Roy and Shib Charan, his father, were returning from a market on Saturday when some youths stopped them and allegedly attacked them with a chopper and also opened fire at them.

“The three are being brought to Kolkata on transit remand,” the officer said.
