Despite the inauguration of the newly built Tallah bridge, heavy goods vehicles will, for the time being, continue to be detoured through Cossipore Road as they plied when the bridge was under construction. The police do not want to disrupt the current traffic arrangement during the puja.
Ever since the bridge was razed, a huge number of vehicles have been taking the route of Chiria More, Dum Dum Road, Seven Tanks, Northern Avenue, Milk Colony, Belgachia Road and RG Kar Road. Heavy vehicles and trucks are also plying through Khagen Chatterjee Street near Cossipore.
Earlier, the load-testing report was validated by IIT-Kharagpur following which Eastern Railway issued the safety certificate.
With the clearances, the 385-tonne load limit bridge is set for both light and heavy freight vehicles, but up to the end of the Puja, only light cars will be allowed. The Rs 468-crore Tala bridge was inaugurated by chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday.
