It was an event marked by tears and laughter in equal measure. Sri Chaitanya Techno School in New Town had organised a farewell for their Class X students that comprised music, mimicry and awards, all seeped in nostalgia.

The champions and runners-up of their internal cricket tournament were handed their awards along with the individual prizes for the best batsman and bowler. Then, the students of next year’s Class X Board exam batch performed music and dance, dedicated to their seniors.

The students had divided themselves into small groups to present various short items but the highlight was a skit in which they paid tribute to their teachers. They created a classroom-like scenario and mimicked their teachers, even using references from popular movies like Pushpa to spice things up.

Students of the outgoing batch were also called on stage to share their thoughts. Many of the girls had tears in their eyes while reminiscing their times in school, while the boys tried to lighten things up with their sense of humour. All the students said they felt cheated as they missed out on their last two years on campus due to the pandemic but their pre-pandemic memories were strong enough to make their bond with the school unbreakable.

“It was great to be a part of an offline event like this,” said Priyansh Sharan, the co-host of the event. “It felt good to be back with friends rehearsing to make this farewell a wonderful experience for our seniors,” he said.

His co-host Chitra Ghosh said she was ecstatic when she learnt about this event. “It was a great opportunity and a break from the pressure of studies. But seeing our seniors today, the emotions are hitting us and we realise we have to say goodbye to the people we looked up to,” said the student who also sang at the event.

This would be the first ever batch of this school to be sitting for their Boards and the principal, dean and other teachers shared words of encouragement with the students. It was clear that they had high expectations of them.

“A farewell is actually a gift that we give our final year students. As this is an offline event after so long, many students from the current Class X batch volunteered to be a part of it,” said principal Ahanjit Chandra Routh. “This was their way of giving thanks to the institution and the seniors as well as have a great time themselves.”
