Some of the channels of three broadcasters were back on TV screens of cable television subscribers on Thursday, five days after they were taken off the air.
The channels were taken off air on Saturday by Sony, Disney Star and Zee after a section of multi-service operators refused to implement a revised tariff structure notified by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
“A couple of Bengali movie channels came back around 8.30pm,” said a Lake Town resident.
“Majority of the channels would be back in a couple of hours,” a cable operator said around 9pm.
A petition filed by a section of cable operators in Bengal against the implementation of the new tariff structure was taken up briefly in Calcutta High Court on Wednesday before a single-judge bench of Justice Suvra Ghosh fixed it for hearing on Monday.
A similar petition filed by the All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF) is being heard in Kerala High Court.
On Thursday, a tripartite meeting was held in New Delhi between the AIDCF, Trai and the broadcasters.
“A settlement has been reached keeping in mind the inconvenience caused to customers. The court cases will continue,” said the representative of an MSO.
