At least two schools that had kept provision for semester I exams for ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) will now use the time for school exams.

Several schools said teachers would be told to prepare question papers keeping in mind one exam instead of two.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced on Friday that there will be one exam at the end of the academic year 2023 and they are likely to be held in February/March.

The Heritage School and Calcutta Girls’ High School have decided to use the time for school exams since the semester system has been scrapped. “We usually try to complete the syllabus and have one exam even before the pre-board exam,” said principal Seema Sapru.

Calcutta Girls’ High School now plans to complete the pre-board exams in December. “Since there will be no semester exam we can use three weeks in December for pre-boards,” said principal Basanti Biswas.

In the circular on Friday, the council has also asked heads to plan the school academic calendar accordingly so as to prepare students adequately for the examination.

For students of the 2021-22 batch, the council had introduced a two-semester exam, the first one, in MCQ pattern, was held in November-December and the second semester is underway at present.

The council has said that the specimen paper for all subjects will be made available on the council website in July.

The specimen question paper would help schools to prepare question papers, several teachers said.

“We will have a few MCQ but subjective questions will be much more,” said Aruna Gomes, principal of Loreto House.

Loreto Convent Entally will have a meeting when schools reopen. “We will have a meeting with teachers to discuss the question pattern,” said Jessica Gomes Surana, principal of the school.

South City International School will have a meeting next week to discuss the cha-nges.“Now that there will be one exam teachers will have to plan the lesson accordingly,” said principal John Bagul.
