A school with a mall adjacent to it has sent a notice to parents saying students should not go to the mall in their uniform without a guardian.

South City International School in the letter on Tuesday said they had received complaints from South City Mall personnel about the behaviour of students.

"...we have decided to restrict students from visiting the mall while wearing the school uniform in the absence of an adult or guardian. However, even in the given situation, we expect that these visits are conducted in a manner that reflects positively on our school and its reputation," said the notice from principal Satabdi Bhattacharjee.

The school and the mall are next to each other.

Bhattacharjee told The Telegraph: "Our students should not be in the mall in school uniform unaccompanied by a guardian. Even if they are accompanied by a guardian, it should not be during school hours because if they are in uniform during school timings they should ideally be in school."

The school shared a copy of the notice with the mall authorities.

"...it is pertinent to mention that we have received numerous complaints from the mall personnel about the behaviour of students, and they include instances of inappropriate behaviour, failure to adhere to mall rules and regulations, fights with schoolmates, using foul language and other such behaviour which are unbecoming in the eyes of the onlookers," the notice said.

"Please understand that it is the foremost responsibility of every student to carry their school uniform with honour and dignity."

Several schools are strict about students roaming in malls in school uniform.

"....we are deeply concerned about the safety and security of our students. Malls can be crowded places, and the visibility of students in uniform can make them vulnerable targets. We want to take every precaution to ensure the well-being of our students, and we believe that having an adult or guardian present will contribute significantly to their safety," the notice said.

The notice asked parents to support the school in enforcing the new policy.
