Personnel of Park Street police station have announced over loudhailers certain restrictions in and around Park Street between 10pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday to comply with a court order on a petition on Muharram on sound limits.

Banners with appeals on limiting decibel levels have been put up in the area.

The police said that as directed by the court, their teams would accompany the processions with a sound-measuring device to ensure that the drumbeat does not cross the permissible level.

A south division officer said the police started implementing Thursday’s Calcutta High Court order on Friday. A religious procession wrapped up by 9.30pm to comply with the order on the sound limits, he added.

Officers of Park Street police station visited several pockets in their jurisdiction to sensitise residents about the court order and the dos and don’ts while organising processions on Saturday.

The police said a standard operating procedure would be drawn up to implement the court’s order in all other processions, too.
