Residents can meet senior officers of Bidhannagar commissionerate, including commissioner Gaurav Sharma, at local police stations and traffic guard offices under an outreach programme by the commissionerate.
The programme, starting on Tuesday, will be overseen by Sharma, who took over as the commissioner of Bidhannagar commissionerate in September.
The Bidhannagar commissionerate has 15 police stations under it, including the cyber crime police station and women’s police station.
The first edition of the programme will start at Bidhannagar South police station and it will continue through the month.
Commissioner Sharma told The Telegraph on Monday that the focus of the drive would be on grievance redress and ensuring that if anyone is facing any issue at the local police station or traffic guard level that problem can be sorted by senior officers.
“The idea is to make senior officers more accessible to the people and to help clear pending investigations at a faster pace and provide any help ranging from passport or job verifications to even localised issues,” said Sharma.
“Any changes in the programme will be notified through local units in advance,” he added.
The commissionerate has started the programme so that people living in different areas, including Rajarhat, Gopalpur, Baguiati and New Town, are spared from travelling long distances in order to meet senior officers regarding any grievances or issues.
While the headquarters of the commissionerate is located in Salt Lake stadium, the offices of most senior officers are spread across Salt Lake, New Town and along VIP Road.
“People often have to travel for quite a distance to meet us regarding any issue,” said a senior officer of the commissionerate.
