Ace businessman, loving husband, doting father, popular friend.
That was Bhavya Lakhani. His friends and family called him Chintu.
The Lakhanis live in an apartment block at 13 Priyanath Mallick Road, between Bakulbagan and Beltala.
More than one friend in Bhowanipore said Bhavya managed his two businesses single-handedly and well.
He ran his finance company from his Ballygunge Circular Road office, where he spent time till afternoon. From there he would go to his medicine wholesale store on Ezra Street.
“He was hard-working and would divide his day between his two businesses. He had a keen interest in share trading. He developed the wholesale medicine business at Giria Trade Centre on Ezra Street,” said a family friend.
Bhavya, who did his graduation from Bhawanipur Education Society College, would usually start his workday with the opening of the share market at 9.15am, a relative said.
“When he was not looking after his businesses, he would spend time with family and friends. He loved to host parties,” the relative said.
The Lakhanis earlier lived in their ancestral home on Ezra Street. They shifted to Bhowanipore around three decades ago, when Bhavya was very young.
With him lived his wife Neha, two sons and mother Kamini. Bhavya’s sister, who is married, lives in another Bhowanipore locality.
The businessman’s elder son wrote an ICSE paper on Wednesday. The younger one is a Class VII student. Both go to the same school.
“Bhavya Lakhani was a fun-loving person who loved to travel. Despite his busy schedule, he would take time out for his pet dog and would often walk him out,” said a friend who lives in the same neighbourhood.
A friend-cum-business associate from Ezra Street, who has a shop next to Bhavya’s, said he had last met Bhavya on Saturday. “It is difficult to believe something like this could happen to him. We met on Saturday afternoon. He did not come on Monday. Today, I came to know about his death. I have never had any problem with him,” the business associate said.
Bhavya’s body underwent post-mortem at the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital in Kamarhati on Wednesday and was brought to his home in the evening.
He was cremated at Keoratola late on Wednesday.
