Metro Railway on Tuesday finalised the timetable for commercial services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade link of East-West Metro.

The first train from Howrah Maidan and Esplanade will start at 7am and the last train at 9.45pm, said a communication from the office of the principal chief operations manager.

The gap between two trains will be 12 minutes and 15 minutes, depending on the time of the day. Trains will run at 15-minute intervals from 7am to 9am, 11am to 5pm and 8pm to 9.45pm. The interval will be 12 minutes from 9am to 11am and again from 5pm to 8pm.

In total, 130 trains will run between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade every day from Monday to Saturday. There will be no commercial services on Sunday.

A train will do a “pilot run” from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade, with a speed not exceeding 40kmph, before each day’s service starts.

“The two rakes that will run on the stretch will be taken to the maintenance depot at Central Park for a weekly inspection,” said an official.

East-West Metro is now operational between Sealdah and Sector V.

Work is ongoing on a 2.5km stretch of East-West Metro, between Esplanade and Sealdah.

The commercial run between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade will make a big difference in how people living across the river commute to the heart of Kolkata.
