A committee set up to investigate allegations of ragging by two doctors at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital has found some of the charges true, an official at the hospital said.
The inquiry committee submitted its report to the principal of the college on Friday.
Two doctors — junior residents in a department at the hospital — had in a letter addressed to the principal on January 8 alleged that two of their seniors had physically and mentally abused them.
The juniors alleged that the two accused doctors — who are also junior resi-
dents but senior to the complainants — verbally abused them and threw instruments at them.
The complainants were also allegedly dragged by their collars and punched in the abdomen. One of the doctors was accused of spitting on the juniors.
“Ever since I have joined on 9th October, 2023, I have been receiving abusive language been hauled ferocious slangs at and also severely humiliated in front of our patients, patient party, GDA staff, sisters in wards, OT and Ortho emergency,” reads the complaint, a copy of which Metro has seen.
A senior official at the medical college and hospital said: “We conducted many hearings. We heard the complainants as well as the accused and nurses, senior doctors, faculty members, interns and other healthcare staff over the last few days.”
“Some of the allegations have been found to be true though the scale may vary. This is unfortunate because all of them are our students,” said the official.
The official referred to the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, National Medical Commission, state health department and the human rights commission in regard to such complaints.
“The principal will seek legal advice based on the findings of the inquiry committee. We are hoping to come to a conclusion about the action to be taken within a week or 10 days,” said the official.
