Joka Metro service closed for 2 days

Metro services on the Joka-Majerhat stretch (Purple Line) will be suspended on Wednesday and Thursday. "There will be no commercial services on April 24 and 25 due to some operational exigencies related to conversion of electronic interlocking (EI) signalling system to a communications-based train control (CBTC) system," the carrier said. In the CBTC system, a train picks up a signal from the tracks and becomes a moving block, said a Metro official. The tracks are open for a train to move only when the preceding train moves. If the tracks ahead are blocked, a train stops automatically. In the EI signalling system, two trains run simultaneously, one in each direction.

Betting cuffs

Three men were arrested for allegedly placing bets on the ongoing IPL matches from a flat at Sukhobrishti Housing Complex in New Town s Action Area III on Monday. The three were identified as Shivam Kumar, 31, Abhishek Das, 29, and Rajesh Kumar, 30, all from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. They had taken the flat on rent a couple of months ago, said an officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate.
