Abhinav Bharati High School
The little ones at Abhinav Bharati High School welcomed the spring season with music, dance and joy. The Lower and Upper Kindergarten children took part in a cultural programme, Welcome Spring, on March 1. The aim was to embrace all that is delightful about the season.
The programme started off with a talk show, Spring Talkies, where the children took part dressed in yellow. The stage was open for them to talk about the season and what they like best about it.
The tots also took part in an art activity, Spring Tide on My Canvas, on the occasion. Here they created trees with spring blossom using paints and cotton buds. It was followed by a flower arranging activity, Blossom of Flowers.
The youngsters were taught how to decorate flower vases with spring flowers. A tattoo-making activity turned out to be a huge attraction.
There were squeals of delight as the kids got Palash, a flower, painted on their hands. The programme concluded with a dance performance to the Rabindrasangeet, Phoole Phoole Dhole Dhole. The little ones danced along with their teachers under showering petals and gulal on the audience.
“The Welcome Spring programme helped our students understand the cultural and social aspects of the celebration. The students worked as teams to perform to the best of their ability and helped in bringing out the true intention behind the event,” said Moumita Rakshit, headmistress, Abhinav Bharati High School.
Sri Sri Academy, Kolkata
Sri Sri Academy, Kolkata, organised an activity day for Kindergarten tots on February 11, in an effort to make them energetic and teach them some important life lessons.
The kids created a world of creepy crawlies, dressing up as different insects and taking part in various races as they celebrated the arrival of the season of fresh flowers. Winning or losing was not the agenda of the day. What mattered was having a good time.
Parents were there in full force clapping and cheering all along. Children performed a synchronised drill to soundtracks, Dreamers and Feel the Magic. They learnt the importance of teamwork, patience and how to stay focussed. The guest of the day was Pooja Surana Dugar, founder of playschool Leap Years. Each child got a badge and a gift.
“Spring Parade was not a competitive event. We don’t want children to compete at this age. We want them to participate and learn something new,” said principal Suvina Shunglu.
Sunny Prep. & High School
A week of sports and fun — that was Sports Fiesta at Sunny Prep. & High School in a nutshell. The gala took place from January 16 to 25.
The school’s Republic Day celebrations were also part of the week-long festivities. The inauguration ceremony was held on January 16. Representatives from the four houses — Netaji House, Tagore House, Swamiji House and Gandhi House — carried the torch of flames.
Sports captain Rajdeep Mishra took the oath. The school flag was hoisted by principal Pubali Bhattacharya, followed by the school song.
On Day I, the Primary and Pre-primary sections took part in many fun events. The tots also presented a drill. Students of Classes III to V jumped through hola hoops and cones and crossed different barriers using their intelligence, in different events.
Classes VI to VIII also took part in challenges such as Bull’s Eye and Bend like Hitman. The four houses also took part in a volleyball tournament. Swamiji (yellow) house won followed by Tagore (red), Gandhi (blue) and Netaji (green) houses.
The school celebrated Republic Day on January 25. The cultural programme was divided into three phases — Pre-primary, Middle school and Secondary sections. There was music, dance and recitation on the occasion.
Another attraction of the day was the prize distribution for the sporting events. There was a lot of cheering as the results were announced. Swamiji House was declared the overall champion, while Gandhi House was the runners-up.
“Sunny Prep. & High School organised a week-long Sports Fiesta. We dream of seeing the future Indians fitter. The enthusiastic participation of each child in various events made us feel confident that we are completely aligned with the present generation’s requirements,” said the principal.
Birla High School, Mukundapur
Students of Birla High School, Mukundapur, hosted their maiden fest, Kaleidoscope, recently. The inter-school cultural do was held on the school premises and saw nine institutions locking horns. Ultimately, the host school emerged overall winner.
The theme of the event was Incredible India @75. It included a series of events, all aimed at nurturing the youth of our nation and their talents.
The inauguration ceremony started off with a Ganesh Vandana followed by the school choir performing a welcome song, Swagatam.
A dance on the nation’s cultural diversity followed. Host school principal Hira Prasad addressed the audience, emphasising on the significance of the fest.
Major General V.N. Chaturvedi, secretary general of the Vidya Mandir Society, then gave his speech.
The chief guest for the event was Jesicca Gomes Surana, principal of Loreto Convent, Entally. Nine events took place simultaneously as part of the fest. It included Clayitivity (a pot-painting competition to promote eco-friendly materials), Srjna (puppetry), Dharayati (an installation art fest where models were made using e-wastes), Kalayogachari (fitness activity that fused kalaripayattu, karate and yoga), Folklorique (folk music performance), Abhudyay (regional dance performances) and Behind the Lens (photography and storytelling).
The other participating schools were The BSS School, Mahadevi Birla World Academy, Birla High School, Shri Shikshayatan School, Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Garden High School and Swarnim International School.
“If you look through a kaleidoscope, even broken bits look beautiful. In this fest, all the talents of students appeared beautiful when showcased. It provided a platform for the students of Classes VI to IX to nurture their potential through recreating, reusing, upcycling and recycling traditional ideas,” said principal Hira Prasad.
The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society
It was that time of the year when new leaders would take charge at The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society (BGES) School.
The Investiture Ceremony of BGES for the academic session 2023-2024 was held in a grand manner.
The school’s newly formed student council members marched up to the stage, ready to take up their responsibilities.
Last year’s prefects helped them wear the new badges. The former head boy and head girl shared their experiences before handing over the school flag to the newly elected ones.
The chief guest for the event was educator Prabuddha Banerjee, who administered the oath of office to the prefects, house-wise.
Banerjee motivated the students with his speech and also told them to stay rooted.
The students’ council took the pledge to uphold the school motto — Live, Learn and Lead.
As parents watched, the students got their badges and new duties and responsibilities.
Lt Colonel (retired) Brij Bhushan Singh, principal of the school, congratulated the students and advised them to be impartial and honest in discharging their duties.
“Leadership may require you to put your morals and ethics on the line. This is where many leaders fail because they succumb to the pressure and take the easy way out,” he told the new prefects.
K.E. Carmel School, Sarisha
Riding high on patriotism, students of K.E. Carmel School, Sarisha, presented a cultural programme, Glissando 2022-23, to mark their 17th annual day on January 20. The theme of the event this year was My Country, My Pride.
The chief guest was state transport minister Dilip Mondal and the guest of honour was Major General (retd) S.N. Mukherjee. All the students and their parents were invited to the programme.
A parade and a school band led the dignitaries to the stage. Pigeons and balloons were released. A high point of the eveningwas the presentation of the KECS Star Award and the academic excellence awards to the achieving kids.
The students also presented an English play, Operation Vijay - a Saga of Valour, a Bengali play, True Education - Asset of the Youth, and a Hindi drama on the life of the athlete Hima Das. The choir mesmerised the audience with a delightful medley.
The programme ended with a special dance show, The Grand Finale. “Celebrating the most awaited 17th Annual day, Glissando 2022-23, gave the students an opportunity to showcase their talents and interact with their teachers in an informal environment.
