Calcutta police commissioner Vineet Goyal launched an app at Lalbazar on Saturday.

Named Utsav, the app can help a user get details of around more than 250 big Puja pandals.

He also inaugurated the Durga Puja guide map.

The app that can be downloaded from Playstore or AppStore will give a “360-degree view” of around 250 big Puja pandals, the police said.

The app will help people locate prominent Durga Puja pandals, the nearest Metro station, railway station, the closest family toilet, restaurants and medicine stores.

There are 2,700-odd registered Durga Pujas in Kolkata.

The police commissioner also inaugurated video walls at the Traffic Control room at Lalbazar.

“The video walls display live footage captured from automatic number plate readers and red light violation detection cameras that are installed across the city,” said a senior officer in the traffic department.

Goyal said the number of deaths on the city's roads had come down. “Last year, there was Covid and the traffic was less. This year, vehicles have increased. Despite that we have been able to reduce the number of fatalities in the city compared to last year,” Goyal said.
