The face of a motorcyclist travelling through the Parama flyover was slashed by a kite string on Sunday evening, police said.
The motorcyclist, who police said is a resident of Behala, was travelling from the EM Bypass-end and was about to take the AJC Bose Road ramp of the flyover when he was struck by the kite string, prompting him to press the brakes.
“He was moving towards the AJC Bose Road flank of the flyover, but after the accident he changed his route and got off the flyover through the Park Circus flank. He went to a hospital on Park Circus, where he was given first aid. A portion of the face above one of his eyes was injured,” said an officer of the traffic department.
Police said they learned about the accident when traffic was affected on the citybound flank of the flyover around 6pm. Cops said the nature of the injury was minor.
The police said there was no case registered with the local police station as the motorcyclist went away once he was discharged from the hospital.
The Parama flyover witnessed several incidents, including fatal ones, of two-wheeler riders being hit by kite strings.
Although a wire mesh has been installed across a portion of the parapet of the flyover, accidents caused by kite strings have not been stopped, police said.
Senior officers said several awareness drives have been carried out in the adjoining neighbourhoods to stop kite flying in the area.
“We are carrying out awareness drives asking people not to fly kites in the area,” said an officer.
