Kite string injures woman police officer on Parama flyover

A woman officer of Park Street police station was injured on the Parama flyover around 4.30pm on Friday by a kite string.

Dipali Adhikary, 40, an assistant sub-inspector of Park Street police station, was returning home with another woman officer from Shakespeare Sarani police station at the time of the accident.

Adhikary, a resident of New Town in northeast Kolkata, and her colleague were flung off the two-wheeler after a kite string cut her throat and left her bleeding profusely on the spot.

“Adhikary has a deep cut on her throat. She has received multiple stitches. She is likely to undergo plastic surgery soon,” said a senior police officer in Lalbazar.

The other police officer was treated for injuries.

Theft cuffs

Salt Lake: Two men were arrested for allegedly stealing a scooter and motorcycle from Mahisbathan on the fringes of Salt Lake on Friday.

Asif Mia, 20, and Ritwick Mitter, 20, were picked up from their rented accommodation in Mahisbathan. They had allegedly stolen a gearless scooter and a motorcycle from areas surrounding Mahisbathan.

They were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged with Electronics Complex police station in Sector V in July.
