The West Bengal Board of Primary Education said on Monday that candidates who did not undergo biometric scanning while writing the teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) on Sunday, need not worry about their candidature getting cancelled.

The test was held to appoint primary teachers in government-aided primary schools.

Candidates in some centres expressed fears that as the scanning could not be conducted owing to technical glitches, their candidature might get cancelled leading to no publication of results.

The authorised agency will “use biometric tablets” as part of the scanning mechanism said a detailed guideline that the board issued on December 1.

“Candidates need not worry. Apart from biometric scanning, there were other mechanisms to check the identity of the candidates. Their results will be published in due course of time along with other candidates,” said Goutam Paul, the chairman of the ad hoc committee that has been constituted to run the board.

In over 100 centres across the state biometric scan could not be conducted owing to server-related glitches.

One of the glitches happened at the Tirthapati Institution on Rashbehari Avenue in south Kolkata.

Many candidates refused to leave the venue after completing the two-and-a-half hour-long examination at 2.30pm because their biometric scanning was not conducted.

An official of the board said after they conducted the biometric scanning in the evening, all the candidates left the venue.
