Ashim Paul/My KolkataA major fire broke out in a four-storey building in the congested Colootola area of north Kolkata on Monday morning, officials said and TV channels reported.
No one was injured in the blaze that erupted on the third floor around 11am, a fire official said.
A total of 20 fire tenders have reportedly been deployed to douse the flames.
Huge quantities of garments were stacked inside the rooms of the building, where two families also live, a fire department official said.

Ashim Paul/My KolkataA team from the Hare Street Police Station and the disaster management department are also involved in the rescue operation.
"Our efforts are continuing. There are inflammable materials stocked inside the building, too,” the official said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Last month, a fire broke out at a wood godown in the heavily congested Nimtala Ghat Street in north Kolkata. It gutted the godown.
The day after that fire, another major blaze broke out at a godown in southwest Kolkata's Taratala area.
