Delhi Public School, Joka
Delhi Public School, Joka, has organised its annual sports meet, Credo 2023, for over two days after two years.
Nursery to Class V gathered on the sports field with enthusiasm on January 28. In her welcome speech, principal Writuparna Chatterjee highlighted the role of sports in building social skills and sportsmanship.
The chief guest was former cricketer Saradindu Mukherjee. Other guests included director of Delhi Public School, Joka, Deepak Agarwal.
Shayana Ganguly of Class II led the oath-taking ceremony.
A yoga performance and a drill followed where the students also displayed taekwondo skills.
Loud cheering accompanied the track and field events. Races such as Bumble Bee, Passing the Ring, Hungry Bunny, Blooming Sunflower, To Mumma with Love and others saw active participation from children.
The day came to an end with a vote of thanks by headmaster Rajib Bhattacharya followed by the national anthem.
The next day, Classes VI to XI braced up for some stiff competition on field.
The chief guest was IAS officer Aditi Chaudhary, additional district magistrate, South 24 Parganas. Other guests included pro-vice chairman Pawan Agarwal and directors Bela Agarwal and Deepak Agarwal.
The second day began with march past by the four houses. Sports captain Aansh Battu of Class XII led the oath-taking ceremony.
A yoga and drill presentation followed through which the students gave the message of saving trees. A variety of races, relays and dribble races kept the audience engrossed for the greater part of the day. The houses were awarded points on the basis of their performances.
In the end, Ruby House was the overall winner. The champion’s trophy was awarded to the winning house by the institute’s pro-vice chairman.
“We wanted to include as many students in the event as possible. Not every student is athletic but our sports meet has different activities to include all. It was a fun time stretched over two days, especially after the pandemic,” said the principal.
Tulip Hall Private School
Students of Tulip Hall Private School brought the Niranjan Sadan auditorium in Bijoygarh down with their colourful annual day performance in December.
The programme started with honorary rector Sunanda Upadhyaya, principal Sudita Paul Chowdhury and other teachers lighting the lamp.
Two senior teachers, Manjushree Das and Rina Sengupta, were felicitated for their long service.
Lower Nursery students began the cultural programme with a dance performance — Sparkling Stars.
The children paid tribute to the nation through a performance — Ucha Sada Rahega Jhanda. It was followed by Fashion Fiesta where primary students walked the ramp. A dance performance by Upper Nursery children brought the curtains down.
“Around 300 kids performed in two shifts. Such events are important as they enhance a child’s social skills, teamwork efforts and co-ordination,” said the principal.
Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School
A walk down the school’s history and some musical performance — students of Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School celebrated their 57th foundation day, paying tribute to the school founders and its journey over the years.
The event started with a virtual programme pre-recorded on the school premises. Class X student Shreya Bag narrated the school’s history right from its inception to the present day, sharing various milestones along the way.
The programme paid tribute to founder-principal Bharati Dasgupta and founder-secretary P.K. Dasgupta while highlighting their ethos and principles.
The cultural programme — Bishwo Bidya Tirtha Prangan — that followed had students of Class VIII and IX performing Rabindrasangeet. Ankita Dey and Tanima Sadhukhan of Class X staged a curated conversation in which they reminisced about their school life, from the fear and uncertainty felt on Day I to melancholy and nostalgia filling their hearts as they prepare to sit for the first board exams.
They spoke about what students loved the most about their school and how teachers helped them make happy memories. The programme ended with the school song.
“Most of the teachers are our alumnae. I have been studying here since I was three years old. The foundation day is a very solemn affair for us. The celebration began much earlier. Through prayer meetings and interactions, we shared our school memories and made our students aware of the school’s history and ethos. It was a holiday. But the school was decorated with lights, and the pre-recorded programme was uploaded on social media,” said headmistress Sharmistha Banerjee.
Panchasayar Siksha Niketan
Waking up in the wee hours to go to school was not easy for Class XI student Sayan Roy. What got him going was the opportunity to take part in a half marathon, for the first time.
Soon Sayan and 12 of his friends were happy to explore the Red Road as they ran.
Thirteen students from Classes IX to XI of Panchasayar Siksha Niketan, near Peerless Hospital, took part in the second edition of a half marathon organised by Kolkata Police on February 12. Like Sayan, it was a first for most of his friends.
Dressed in green T-shirts, the students arrived at their school at 6.30 in the morning, to be escorted to the race venue in a police van, along with a teacher.
“The best part of my experience was the ride in the van with my friends. We were thrilled, chatting and singing together,” said Sayan.
The race was flagged off at 8 in the morning from the southeast corner of the West Bengal Basketball Association ground on Red Road. The students had to make a 5km round of the road and end at the flag-off point.
The children got T-shirts and breakfast from Kolkata Police on the occasion. A teacher had attended the briefing a day before at Eden Gardens. “It was a good experience for the boys to take part in the Kolkata Police SDL Half Marathon. We selected 13 boysto take part in the event. They were guided by the physical education teacher at the rally,” said headmaster Amitava Ganguly.
