“The accused, Balraj Gill, a lawyer, was arrested at the airport on Thursday night,” a senior officer of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate said.

According to the officer, Haryana police had issued look-out circulars (LOCs) against Gill and Ravi Bandhra, employees of the hotel where Pahuja was shot dead.

A senior police officer who is familiar with the case said Gill was intercepted at the departure level, in front of Gate 3C.

The woman’s body is yet to be found.

“During questioning, Gill told us that he and Bandhra had dumped the body in a canal behind a police outpost, between Patiala and Sonam, after they drove out of the hotel in a BMW. We have passed this information to the officers in Haryana,” said the officer.

The car used in the crime was found at near a bus stand in Patiala.

On January 2, Pahuja was allegedly shot dead inside room No. 111 of Hotel City Point.

The owner of the hotel, two employees and a 20-year-old woman have already been
arrested.

Speaking about the arrest, an officer said: “All his phones were switched off but he had switched on one of them, which helped the Haryana cops track him. They passed the information to us. Our officers were posted in plainclothes and they intercepted him while he was about to enter the airport through Gate No. 3C.”

Gill told the police that Bandhra and he came to Kolkata in the same train but they had parted ways in Howrah station.
