A fresh system on the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger rain in the city over the next three to four days, a Met official said on Monday.
“A cyclonic circulation persists over the northeast and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area over the next 48 hours,” said G.K. Das, director, India Meteorological Department, Calcutta.
“The system is likely to bring light to moderate rain in Calcutta for the next three to four days.”
The monsoon trough, which now passes through Digha, is also likely to contribute to the overcast conditions, said Das.
September has so far seen multiple systems over the Bay at regular intervals. But
almost all of them drifted towards the Odisha coast and Calcutta experienced what Met officials said an “indirect impact”.
The next few days are expected to see a similar impact, said a Met official.
“The next few days are likely to be generally cloudy. The Celsius is likely to stay under 32 degrees,” said the official. The rain is likely to be consistent and widespread."
