The councillor of Ward 106 of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, Arijit Das Thakur, presented his achievements as a councillor to the residents of his Ward at a programme on Thursday.

Das Thakur told the audience that he has been able to identify a plot where the ward’s health centre, now running from the Ramlal Bazar market building, would be shifted.

“Many people have complained that they found it difficult to access the health centre. We will shift it next to Kalidasi Mitra Vidyalaya,” he said. “The construction of the new health centre will start in a month’s time,” he said.

About 500 people attended the programme.

Mayor Firhad Hakim was the chief guest of the event. “Councillors are caretakers of common people. I am the head caretaker as the mayor. If we work well, our jobs will stay. Else, we will lose our jobs,” Hakim said.

Some raised the issue of groundwater consumption. Large areas of Ward 106, which covers parts of Garfa and Haltu, depend on groundwater extracted through pumps. This problem is not restricted to Ward 106 alone but spread across Jadavpur and Kasba.

“We are working on a plan to build a booster pumping station-cum-reservoir that will enable us to supply potable water,” the councillor said.
