A committee headed by senior officials of the health department will monitor the spread of dengue and engage with public health experts and urban local bodies on how to prevent the spread of the viral infection, the state government has decided.
The committee, headed by the director of state's medical education, will have the director of health services, director of public health and other senior doctors, including experts of vector-borne diseases, as members.
“Dengue has taken backseat for the last two years because of Covid. The committee will now look into dengue-related deaths and other issues,” Siddhartha Neogi, director of health services, told The Telegraph.
Cases of dengue are being reported from and around the city. The Kolkata and Bidhannagar municipal corporations are gearing up to tackle the spread of the disease over the next few months.
In Kolkata, some of the usual hotspots are parts of Bhowanipore, Chetla, Kalighat, Tollygunge, Bidhan Sarani, College Street and Burrabazar.
