The CBI has sought from the urban development and municipal affairs department details of the OMR sheets of the candidates who had appeared in recruitment exams for municipal jobs since 2014.
A CBI officer, who is part of the team that is probing alleged irregularities in civic recruitments, said: “We have written to the department seeking details of the OMR sheets used in recruitment exams for 14 municipalities since 2014.”
It has been alleged that the sheets were tampered with in the same way as those used in school recruitment exams.
Ayan Sil, a businessman arrested for his alleged links with irregularities in recruitment in schools, had provided the OMR sheets for municipal recruitment exams, CBI officials said.
Sil’s company, ABS Infozon, had received the contract to evaluate and put barcodes on OMR sheets used in recruitment tests.
A CBI officer said Silseems to have used the opportunity to collect money with the promise of a government job.
The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Sil from his Salt Lake home on March 20 following a 36-hour search. Sleuths are said to have found many OMR sheets in Sil’s house.
Sil, now in judicial custody, was allegedly involved in recruiting close to 5,000 candidates to permanent posts in around 60 municipalities, senior officers said of the agency said.
The CBI has raided a number of municipalities and collected documents concerning recruitments.
“We have drawn up a list of officials from these municipalities for questioning,” an officer said.
“The interrogation process will begin shortly and will continue parallel to our scanning of the OMR sheets.”
