The Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM) has started its own astronomy club to help students unravel the mysteries of the cosmos and spark their interest in space science.
On June 26, the BITM Astronomy Club was launched through a hybrid session in the presence of around 50 students. Astronomical Society of India chairman Dibyendu Nandi joined online as chief guest.
In his welcome speech, BITM director V.S. Ramachandran said, “We had planned to launch this club almost two years back. But the process got delayed due to the pandemic. I’m very happy that the plan has finally been realised.”
At the event, Nandi presented some slides to make the participants understand the significance of the sun. The presentation was followed by an interactive session with the participants.
To become members of the club, students of Class IX and above can register their names online. Registrations can be made on an individual basis or through schools and colleges.

Guided by BITM curator Rakesh Mazumder, the club has outlined a list of activities for engaging its members in the field of astronomy. All registered members would be notified of future events and activities.
