“We received information that two men were betting on the India-Pakistan cricket match during the ongoing Asia Cup. Based on specific input we found the two
men inside a car parked along Waterloo Street,” said an officer of the detective department.

Police said three mobile phones and alleged discriminatory articles that indicated their involvement in the betting have been seized.

A case has been drawn under sections of cheating, and criminal conspiracy
and under sections of the West Bengal Gambling and Prize Competitions
Act.

In a separate raid conducted near Maidan on Laslie Claudius Sarani near East Bengal Club, four men were arrested for allegedly selling the tickets to the Durand Cup finals played between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal on Sunday.

Police said the tickets were sold for double their original cost which amounts to black marketing.

Four persons, whom police identified as Ajoy Seth, 49, Mushir Ahmed, 49, Omprakash Seth, 51 and Mohammad Rashid, 53, have been arrested by a team of the detective department of the city police.

A senior officer said a bunch of tickets that appeared to be genuine were seized
from their possession and were being sold illegally at double the original
price.

The accused were handed over to the Maidan police station and charged under sections of the Calcutta Police Act.
