Attack cry against Kolkata app cab drivers

A couple who work as software developers alleged that an app-cab driver had beaten up the man and tried to snatch his wife’s mobile phone

Two police complaints of misbehaviour and attack have been lodged by app cab passengers against drivers between Sunday and Monday.

A man lodged a complaint on Kolkata police’s Bondhu app alleging that an app-cab driver had beaten him up and tried to molest his wife when they were getting off the vehicle after reaching their destination in south Kolkata on Monday.

The couple had asked the driver to move a few metres ahead but he allegedly refused, resulting in an altercation.

“The driver abused... my wife. He tried to assault me and my wife and tried to snatch her phone, purse and a packet she was holding,” the man said in his complaint.

The complainant said the incident happened around 5pm. He said when he tried to stop the driver from snatching his wife’s valuables, he received a blow on his forehead, which left him with a wound around one of his eyes.

The man attached three pictures of the app-cab driver with his complaint.

On Sunday night, a couple who work as software developers alleged that an app-cab driver had beaten up the man and tried to snatch his wife’s mobile phone. The man suffered injuries on his head.

The couple were shopping in New Market on Sunday when the woman was taken ill. They hired an app cab to return home to Baguiati.

After boarding the cab, the man urged the driver to switch on the AC since his wife was not feeling well. The driver allegedly refused. The man then offered to pay Rs 200 extra for the AC but the driver still allegedly turned down the request.

“The complaint said the driver also turned down his request to take AJC Bose Road and Parama flyovers to reach Baguiati,” said an officer.

“The driver returned to the spot where the couple had boarded the cab and allegedly attacked them.”

The couple lodged a complaint with New Market police station. Neither driver was arrested till late on Wednesday.
