Police said Amaresh Kumar, 26, is wanted in connection with a case of theft and poisoning that was reported on April 1.

Based on information, a team of officers from the South Port police station started for Faridabad in Haryana on April 4.

“The officers, with the help of the local police, arrested the accused on April 5. He is a resident of Purnia in Bihar,” said deputy commissioner (port division), Kolkata Police, Harikrishna Pai.

“After obtaining a transit remand from the local court they boarded the Rajdhani Express from New Delhi on April 7. While they were passing Parasnath railway station in Jharkhand in the night they found that the accused was missing,” he added.

The team searched the train but failed to find the man.

Police lodged a “zero FIR” with the government railway police, Gomoh, under the superintendent of railway police, Dhanbad. The case will be transferred to Bodh Gaya police as later it was found from CCTV analysis that the man alighted the train at Bodh Gaya station, police said.

A “zero FIR” can be registered anywhere across the country by a complainant irrespective of the place of occurrence of the alleged crime. The case details are shifted to the local police station through the court.

A probe has been initiated on how the accused could flee the custody of the policemen.
