A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking his wife, in her mid 30s, with acid in their Kestopur home on Monday.
Police said Sanjeeb Dey has been arrested after residents of the area handed
him over to the cops after he tried to flee from the house after the incident on Monday evening.
Neighbours rushed Sanjeeb’s wife to the Salt Lake Sub-divisional Hospital where she has been admitted, the police said.
A section of neighbours also alerted the police, after which a team from the Baguiati police station went to the area and took Sanjeeb to the Sub-divisional Hospital in Salt Lake as well.
Sanjeeb has acid burns on his hands and torso and is also being treated at the Salt Lake facility, the police said.
“It appears that the acid was thrown at the woman by her husband after an altercation broke out between them. The husband also got injured and we will question him when we get him in our custody,” a senior officer of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate said.
Sanjeeb has been arrested and will be produced before a court, the officer added.
