It will be a homecoming for Samsung as the global electronics giant will host its next edition of Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul in late July. Usually, there are two big Unpacked events every year, one in February and the other in early August, the first one is for the Galaxy S series phones while the second is for the premium Fold phone.

If recent summer Unpacked events are considered, we expect the July event to focus on foldables, that is, the successors to Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4.

“The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering breakthrough innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences,” said TM Roh, president and head of Mobile eXperience (MX) business at Samsung Electronics. “Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicenter of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.”

So far we have had Unpacked events focussed on the fold in the US but that’s changing. The first Unpacked event was in March 2010 in Las Vegas and then the event took place in different cities, like New York, London, Berlin and Barcelona. The upcoming 27th Unpacked in Seoul will help Samsung shift its direction for Unpacked for foldable devices to “focus on different trend-leading cultural cities around the globe that closely align with the designated theme of each event”.

The July event will take place at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, an intersection where Teheran-ro, a hub for domestic innovative startups, and Bongeunsa, a millennial Buddhist temple, converge.

Samsung’s folding phones are the world’s most popular, thanks to their hardware and software capabilities.
